Alexis Holcombe
Allied ASID, WELL AP, WELL Faculty, Fitwel Ambassador
Lexy's career is a unique blend of her passion for public good and design. She began her professional life in Washington, D.C., working in writing and editing roles for non-profits and publishers, after earning degrees in political science and journalism.
However, a lifelong fascination with design, sparked by her father's woodworking, her grandmother's sewing, and her family's frequent moves, continued to pull at her. This led her on a search for the "soul of place and space," which she explored through home renovations and her studies of works like A Pattern Language. Pivotal exhibitions on Shaker and Gee's Bend design further refined her aesthetic.
Lexy eventually transitioned to managing an architecture firm, but realized she wanted to actively create. This led her to pursue an MFA in Interior Design from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her graduate thesis focused on creating a "micro-Blue Zone" based on Active Design principles, a commitment she continues to uphold today.
After graduating, Lexy became a professor at VCU, teaching interior graphics and studio courses. Now a WELL AP and WELL Faculty member, she is dedicated to designing healthy, human-centered environments. Weaving these ideas into her own life, Lexy and her husband have made it a priority to eat well, move naturally, get plenty of sleep, and make time for friends and family. They're also upgrading their 1959 home to be healthier and more energy-efficient!
In 2025, Lexy founded Alexis Holcombe Design, LLC in Baltimore County, Maryland, with a mission to transform residential spaces into sanctuaries that promote well-being, inclusivity, and sustainability for every client.
