design for many

Environments shaped by inclusive design principles embody a commitment to equity and accessibility, ensuring that every individual—regardless of ability, age, culture, socioeconomic status, education, gender, geographic location, language, or race—can interact with spaces comfortably and confidently.

The Community Concept of the WELL Building Standard recognizes that people who are neurodivergent have unique sensory processing needs and may experience the environment at heightened or lower intensity levels (WELL Building Standard, 2025). When environments do not support neurodivergent individuals, they can lose focus and experience increased anxiety. Neurodiverse members of a household should therefore be deeply involved in design decisions early in the process. Individual control, access to nature, acoustic features and lighting elements are additional factors that support self-regulation and psychological safety for all.

At Alexis Holcombe Design, we embed these principles deeply into our residential projects, creating homes that celebrate diversity and foster well-being. Our human-centered approach not only meets the functional needs of all residents but also enhances their emotional connection to the space, resulting in environments that are truly welcoming, sustainable, and empowering for everyone.
